FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My cables are hanging loose, why?

If both of them are hanging loose: broken spring.

If only one cable is loose  you have a broken cable.

Why does my door only open 6″?

Usually the cause is a broken spring and/or bad gears in the motor unit.

A crooked door and a loose cable on one end means both cables need to be replaced.

Loose cables and the door flat on the floor, usually means a broken spring.

The door refuses to close when I push either the button on the wall, or the remote in the car.

This is usually caused by either broken, or misaligned photo sensors which are located
down near the floor, on either side of the door.  The light bulbs on the motor unit will flash 10 times if the problem
is the photo eyes or sensors.

You can get the door to close by pressing and holding the button on the wall until the door comes to a complete stop.

Garage door opener motor runs
but nothing moves?

Gears inside are shot due to age. These can be repaired. Usually that will givecustomer another 10-12 years out of the machine.

My garage door opener makes a motor noise, but the chain isn’t moving.

This usually means the nylon gears inside are stripped and need to be replaced.

This  happens because the nylon has become brittle with age, about the 10-12 year mark
and once a new gear kit has been properly installed, the motor unit will usually go for another 10 years.

The door only lifts up a few inches.

Usually caused by a broken spring, which
is located about 10 inches above the door.
If broken, you will see a gap in the spring
about
2 1/2 inches wide. If the spring is broken, the door is extremely dangerous, do not attempt to open it.

A roller on the end of the door has fallen out, or fallen apart.

Rollers are like tires on a car, they have a limited life and need to be replaced occasionally. We use Nylon rollers instead of steel, and they are extremely quiet and durable.
